DÍA 4: EL ESCORIAL

Hoy tuve dos horas extras para dormir, asi que mis amigas y yo estábamos felices. Después del desayuno,  nuestro grupo tomo el metro y un autobús a las afueras de Madrid para visitar el Escorial. El Escorial es un pueblo y su nombre complete es: El Escorial de San Lorenzo. 

Today I got to extra hours of sleep, so my friends and I were happy.  After breakfast, our group took the metro and the bus to the outskirts of Madrid to visit the Escorial.  The Escorial is a town and its official name is: El Escorial de San Lorenzo.  

 El edificio de El Escorial tiene forma de una parrilla porque así murió el santo y mártir San Lorenzo. El Escorial esta compuesta de cinco partes:

-la Basílica

-el Palacio

-la Biblioteca

-el Panteón de los Reyes e Infantes

-el Monasterio

The building of the Escorial is in the form of a grill because the Saint and Martyr died on the grill. The Escorial is composed of five parts:

-the Basilica

-the Palace

-the Library

-the Pantheon of Kings and Princes

-the Monastery

La basílica era muy bonita y tenía muchas pinturas además tenia decoraciones en mármol y oro. Las columnas del altar mayor eran en el estilo dórico, iónico, y corintio. Hay puertas a los laterales del altar que tiene acceso al Palacio y los dormitorios del Rey Felipe II y a su hija. Así cada uno de ellos podía oír la misa desde su dormitorio. Háblanos sobre la religión porque en la época del siglo XVI todas las personas eran religiosas.  

The basilica was very pretty and had many paintings additionally it was decorated in marble and gold.  The columns of the high altar were in the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian style.  The doors on the side lead to the Palace and the bedrooms of King Felipe II and his daughter.  That way each of them could listen to mas from their individual beds.  We spoke about religion because people were very religious back in the 16th Century. 

La biblioteca es una sala larga y grande. Tiene más de 40,000 libros escritos en español, árabe, hebreo, francés, italiano, inglés, ruso, alemán, chino, latín, y griego.  El libro más antiguo tiene 1,000!!!  En un extremo había un fresco sobre la religión y en el otro extremo había un fresco sobre la filosofía. La diferencia entre la religión y la filosofía son muy importantes para una sociedad. 

 The library long and huge.  It contains more than 40,000 books written in Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, French, Italian, English, Russian, German, Chinese Latin, and Greek. The oldest book is 1,000 years old!!! On one end of the library there was a fresco depicting religion and on the other end philosophy.  The difference between religion and philosophy are very important for a society. 

El panteón es una parte enorme del edificio donde están enterrados los reyes y reinas de España y ahora los turistas pueden verlo y admirarlo.  En el monasterio hay monjes que toman tres votos: 

-la obediencia

-la pobreza

-la castidad

Yo no quisiera ser una monja y prometer mi vida a Dios. Felipe II era muy religioso pero no era monje –tuvo cuatro esposas. El necesitaba reinar el Imperio Español para que hubiese un balance entre las fuerzas militares, la realeza, y la religión.

The pantheon is an important part of the building complex where the kings and queens of Spain are buried and now tourist can visit and admire it.  In the monastery there are monks that take three vows:

-obedience

-poverty

-celibacy

I would not want to be a nun and devout my life to God.  Felipe II was very religious but want a monk –he had four wives.  He needed to reign the Spanish Empire so that there was a balance between the military, the aristocracy, and the religion.

Al terminar la visita, caminamos a una plaza en la ciudad del Escorial y almorzamos en un restaurant.  Al principio nosotros comimos en silencio como los monjes porque estábamos cansados. Muchas personas comieron empanada y paella.  La comida estaba muy rica.

 Muchas personas durmieron en el autobús a Madrid por eso tuvimos mucha energía para salir de compras durante nuestro tiempo libre. Alicia, Danny, Liam, y yo fuimos de compras a H&M, y Blanco.  Los chicos nos ayudaron a elegir ropa en todas la tiendas. Nos contamos muchos chistes y hablamos sobre el viaje y los otros estudiantes en nuestro grado escolar. Cuando estábamos hablando, yo me di cuenta que me encantan las personas en el nuestro grupo de inmersión.

When we finished the visit, we walked to a town square in the city of the Escorial and had lunch in a restaurant.  At the beginning we ate in silence like monks because we were tired.  Many people had empanada and paella. The food was delicious.

Many people slept on the bus back to Madrid that why we were very energetic when we had free time.  Alicia, Danny, Liam, and I went shopping in H&M and Blanco.  The boys helped us to selected outfits.  We told many jokes and talked about our classmates. While we were talking, I realised that I like the kids in our immersion group.

Por la noche nos vestimos para celebrar nuestra última noche en Madrid con una cena muy chula en unos de los restaurantes it de Madrid.

At night we got dressed up to celebrate our last night in Madrid with a nice dinner in one of the hotspot restaurants in Madrid.
